SEW-Eurodrive UK expands with new team membersNormanton-based SEW‑Eurodrive UK, a leading specialist in drive technology, has strengthened its team with five new appointments across business development, health and safety, engineering and customer service, as the company prepares for increased demand in software‑led automation solutions.

Simon Parkin has joined as health and safety compliance officer and will oversee UK operations, ensuring adherence to legislation and best practice while developing site-wide policies and working to reduce workplace risks. To support growth in Scotland, the company has appointed Gary Simpson as area sales manager for the Cumbernauld region. Mr Simpson brings almost two decades of experience from European weighbridge supplier Weightron Bilanciai Ltd.

The progress department has been expanded with the addition of customer service advisor Lexie Evans, who has previously worked in the transport and aggregates sector. SEW‑Eurodrive UK has also welcomed two new apprentices, Jack Addinall and Alex Hobson, both undertaking an NVQ Level 3 apprenticeship in Electro‑Technical Systems as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to developing engineering talent.

Two internal role changes have also been made to encourage skills development and improve cross‑department collaboration. Former apprentice and works operative Ellis Morewood has moved into a permanent administration and condition monitoring position after completing his training and serving as a service engineer. Repairs administrator Chris Blankley has transitioned into the role of production planning and logistics chargehand.

24/7 assembly capability

SEW‑Eurodrive UK operates a 10,000ft2 production facility in Normanton, with 24/7 assembly capability and a workforce of around 160 employees. The business reports UK turnover of £65 million and has grown revenue by 20% since 2020. Its drive solutions support a wide customer base, including Amazon, Coca‑Cola and Manchester Airport Group.

Andy Turner, managing director, said: “I am delighted to expand the team to prepare us for growth, both in the Scottish market and with our automation product offering. Alongside our physical drive components, at SEW we have a fantastic range of control and automation technology to help manage speed, positioning and synchronisation. This is an essential area to help manufacturers improve productivity as industry heads into more software-defined processes.”

He continued: “I am equally proud that we can support two young apprentices as they start their careers. As a former apprentice myself, I know just how valuable these opportunities can be and I am proud that SEW‑Eurodrive is helping to shape the next generation of electronic engineers.”

Mr Simpson concluded: “Joining the SEW‑Eurodrive UK team is a fantastic opportunity; the company has a strong reputation for genuine customer service and technical expertise. My focus will be on building long-term relationships with customers by understanding their operations and supporting them with reliable, high-quality solutions. With the depth of knowledge and support across the wider SEW‑Eurodrive UK team, I am confident we can continue to add real value to Scottish industry.”
